Tenses are one of the basic building blocks of the English language.
Every single sentence uses a tense.
It’s very important that you know which tense to use but how to use it to communicate in an effective manner.
“How are you?” (present tense) is not the same as “How have you been?” (past tense)
The first is asking you how you are feeling right now.
The other is asking you, having not seen you for some time, how you have been feeling.
